Three positive things, day seven

So, today was rather work-laden again, but

The first thing was... (drumroll).. kittens. Yes, again :p So we've had them for about a month but we've been keeping them in the main upstairs bathroom while they were getting a little older, and recovering from a bit of an eye infection they carried home with themselves. Over the past week we've been letting them out more and more, each time for an hour or two, gradually getting them used to the house and the big things that stomp around the place all day. And trying to get Kian used to them, specifically getting him to be gentle with them. Anyway, today we actually had them out since about six am until near bedtime, and it went fine! We had a few awkward Kian-vs-kitten and kitten-vs-fridge-door moments, but we're learning to always expect a kitten to be under our feet pretty much at all times. So they're pretty comfortable at this point and we're all adjusting rather well.

The second thing was the start of a movie called "From the Dark" that's set in County Offaly, which is closed to where I grew up and where several school friends lived. While the movie may end up being a pile of.. something.. it was fun seeing old familiar road signs, a car with the driver on the right side, etc.

The third and most positive, and amazing, thing today was that I saw my mum on TV :) There's an independent Irish "TV" station available online called "Irish TV" and they have weekly segments from different counties. Today's segment on County Westmeath was focused on

(This should have been posted last night but I forgot. Doh.)

A work-laden day still had some good stuff.

The first positive thing was - you guessed it - kittens. They were let out for a few hours around lunchtime and again after dinner time. One thing that was particularly cool was watching them play on Kian's small indoor slide - perfectly, disgustingly cute :)

The second positive thing was taking the kids to the park after dinner. We had a pretty good time playing, and then the family we met last week showed up out of the blue so we got to hang out with them for a little bit.

The third positive thing was having our ~24,000 photos finish uploading to our iCloud account so that they can be properly sync'd with both of our laptops. After the recent discovery that I'd lost three years worth of photos, including the first two years of our eldest's life, I was determined to ensure the photos were accessible from more than one computer. And now they are.

Three positive things, day five

Today was a rather relaxed day, though we still got up to some fun.

The first really positive thing was going blueberry picking at Monadnock Berries in Troy, NH. It's a pick-your-own fruit farm where they specialize in blueberries, but also have raspberries, strawberries, gooseberries, multiple types of currants, etc. We've gone there almost every year since moving back to NH and we've always come away with just a whole load of exceedingly tasty fruit. We had organized to meet up with my wife's best friend and her son, (who were mentioned in my third 3PT post) so that added a little more to it.

The second really positive thing happened while we were picking blueberries. My wife was at the other end of a plant row than I was and she heard this familiar voice that she hadn't heard in several years. She looked around to see where it was coming from and spotted an old friend (& boss) she used to know, and work for, back when she was in college - over fifteen years ago! While they had briefly bumped into each other a few years ago, this was the first time we got to chat with her at any length. Furthermore, her husband was wandering around picking berries too, so he (finally) got to meet our children. And we're going to invite them over once I get back from visiting NYC.

The third positive thing was.. yes.. kittens. Tonight before dinner we let them wander around (much of) the upstairs, and we left them wandering for well over an hour. While we kept Kian busy with dinner, reading and Kipper, the rest of us kept an eye on them as they explored and frolicked. The duo also got to interact with Kodiak, our 80+ lbs black lab, and Bolt, our patriarchal "upstairs" cat, and they all got on just fine with lots of playing and submissive gestures (in cats, in dogs).

More tomorrow!

Three positive things, day four

So today was a little different - my wife took our kids on an adventure drive to some parks around Nashua while I worked on some things. There were still some highlights :)

The first item was watching a few rather surprising movies, specifically "Faults" and "The One I Love." Neither was what I was expecting, based upon the trailer, and kudos to Gavin Rothery for the recommendation on the latter.

The second item was a photo of the kids that #awesomewife took at one of the parks today - it was a great group shot and all three were just beaming :-)

The final item meeting a couple at a park that I suspect will become fast friends for us. They have a 3yo who gets on really well with Kian, they've both done lots of gaming (D&D, et al) in the past, and they also moved back to Keene after leaving the area for a while. And yes, one of them is considering learning Drupal, and she has some experience building websites before. Also, LOL. Anyway, I'm sure we'll be seeing lots more of them.

Three positive things, day three

Hi. How are you? It's me. But you already know that.

So, today a few positive things happened.

First off, at lunchtime I was passing through the kitchen from one side to the other and I noticed Kian "asking" for some of his mom's lunch. He'd already had some of his food (he'd already gotten bored with it so flipped it to the floor) but his mom had one of his favorite foods - green beans! So I got a small fork from the cutlery drawer, picked up a green been and fed it to him, and he just beamed with contentment - he had a green bean! That smile as he chomped down on his cherished prize, a vegetable that we have a hard time getting his older brothers to eat, was just amazing :)

Secondly, after having lunch we let the kittens roam around our bedroom for a while. We've been keeping them in the upstairs bathroom, mostly for their own protection (Kian's a little rough with them, wants to carry them around like toys), so we brought them to the master bedroom to let them roam around. It was cool watching them scamper around, climb under and on top of things, and explore, with all of that frenzied kitten curiousity.

The third positive thing today was having Jen's best friend over for dinner, Drupal and discussion. She's someone we met within a few months of moving to NH and she has become a good friend to us both, and to Jen especially - they have lots of similarities, personality-wise, and they they could chat for hours, laughing for most of it. Yes, I'm slowly teaching her Drupal as a means of starting a new career, but it was just great to have her over. She also has a son close in age to our two eldest, so while we were chatting the three eldest boys (mostly) were paying. It was a great end to the day.
