Three positive things, day twenty seven

It's August? Already? Who said it was allowed to be August already?

The first positive thing was Kian saying some new words. For the life of me I can't remember what they were, but his vocabulary is slowing increasing.

The second positive thing was noticing this story: http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/giant-40foot-minion-balloon-causes-... I mean, how can you not laugh? :-)

The third positive thing was getting a little ukulele practice before hitting the hay, and finding https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QATHiOS_Efc which has the four notes you need for tuning it properly (I was singing the notes slightly incorrectly when I was doing it, so it was out of tune).

G'night!

That was a pretty good Sunday :)

The first positive thing was a trip to a playground that my wife found online. It was at a school in a town called New Boston and it was surprisingly well taken care of, and fun :) One problem we have with many of the schools in the Keene area is that they don't take care of their playgrounds, so it was nice to see one that was in good shape.

The second positive thing was seeing an absolutely huge Lego replica of the old Manchester Millyard at the See Science Center. I've seen some large creations built in Lego before, but this was the first time seeing something at such scale. It took its creators several years to build and is pretty amazing, if you're into that sort of thing.

The third thing was simply having a pleasant, relaxing day with my #awesomewife and wonderful children :)

My Drupal contrib plans for August, updated

A few weeks ago I posted my plans for my personal Drupal contributions for the next month-or-so. I wanted to give a minor update on what I'd managed to achieve so far.

My next goals are:

  • New releases for the Twitter module for D6 and D7, probably -beta1 releases because there are a few additional changes that are needed before they're "final".
  • A new release for the Fieldable Panels Panes to add some missing permissions.
  • A new branch for the Nodewords module to add token and content type functionality that may result in some API changes.
  • Work on the NERDSummit / NEDCamp presentation.

Once the first three are done then I'll start back onto Panelizer.

So today was Saturday - my #awesomewife took our kids to some museums in Western Massachusetts while I worked on some things.

The first positive thing was getting huge smiles from Kian when he woke up. Some mornings he's fussy when he wakens up, but this morning he was all smiles.

The second positive thing was finally remember / getting the time to submit sessions to two upcoming web development conferences - NERDSummit in September and NEDCamp in October. I plan on doing the same presentation at both camps, all about open source and based upon my keynote speech from last year's NERDSummit. Should be fun!

The third positive thing was dipping my toes into Drupal 7's defacto e-commerce system "Drupal Commerce" a little more and releasing a small module to solve a specific use case. The goal was to provide a complete product list on the checkout form, so that visitors could fill in what they want and checkout at the same time, rather than having to do it in multiple steps. I'll probably have to do a little more work on it, but it's a reasonably solid start.

Three positive things, day twenty four

(this is from Friday)

That was a fun day.

The first positive thing was that it was my extra day off as part of the 9/80 schedule we're doing at work, so that meant an extra family day. We spent the day at the Montshire museum, which is always fun. Then on the way home we found an ice cream stand which had a playground beside it - we didn't stay to let the kids play because they were exhausted and already falling asleep, and it was really hot out so we figured we'd save it for another day.

The second positive thing was receiving an unexpected email from someone about my work in the Drupal community. Not much to say about it, but it was cool to receive it.

The third positive thing was our eldest attending an event at the local library for teenage kids. It was organized by the library staff and they do various games 'n things with the kids in the library after it has been closed up for the night. They were going to be going from 6pm until midnight, but had a option for the kids to leave at 9 for anyone who needed to. They also had planned to have some authors speak with the group via Skype, but it seemed that was scheduled for the second half of the night, after we'd picked him up. The most exciting aspect of this was that a few days ago, while they were finishing up from a class at the library he asked if he'd be able to go to the event because a girl from the class was wondering if he'd be going - our baby's all gown up! He ended up having a great time.
